'There may be confusion but optimism must prevail,' speaker tells Club

Established in 1979, Alcumus is a leading provider of technology-led compliance and risk management solutions with over 500 employees based at its headquarters in Cardiff and offices around the UK, in addition to representative offices across the globe.

Speaking to members of Cardiff Business Club during a live virtual event, CEO Alyn Franklin called for the need for business leaders to “stay optimistic” amid the confusion that currently exists, adding “it doesn’t serve us well to be otherwise.”

Indeed, he asserted that while there is much uncertainty regarding the economy both in the here and now and the outlook over the coming months, there are also opportunities for businesses – especially on the talent front.

Mr Franklin was suggesting that as “we lift the location restraint, this will be good for businesses seeking to attract the talent” they will need to re-position themselves for future growth.

He added: "Remote working has expanded the catchment area for talent.” But he was equally keen to point out that the pandemic will not necessarily be the death knell of the office as we know it. It will, he said, “still have a role to play - it just won't be the default.”

The focus, he urged, now needs to be on “trusting and empowering our employees.” In doing so, we can “help our businesses to get back to work."
