Attending my first Cardiff Business Club speaker event as a young professional.

Date Posted: 15 December 2021 Attending my first Cardiff Business Club speaker event as a young professional.

I recently attended my first Cardiff Business Club’s speaker event and lunch at the new Parkgate Hotel in Cardiff on 17th November 2021. As a trainee solicitor, the thought of attending a large networking event with lots of seasoned professionals and business people can be intimidating and overwhelming, particularly should you attend an event alone. However, the speaker event held by Cardiff Business Club was welcoming, inclusive and allowed a relaxed environment for a first-time solo networking event goer. At Lux Family Law we are encouraged to network and build connections from the early stages of our career.

The attendees were diverse in age and gender which allowed me to meet many other professionals (including junior professionals) from various sectors and specialisms. It was also very refreshing to learn that a number of students from Cardiff University were present which again fed into its inclusiveness. Through the varied personalities, ages and business backgrounds you were guaranteed to meet a contemporary with whom you would have something in common, may that be professionally or personally.

The lecture commenced with Col Needham, the founder and CEO of IMDb, addressing how IMDb came to be and the story of its huge success. Col’s talk was not only inspiring but extremely engaging and allowed for a great conversation starter to be had over the lunch that followed.

I was so impressed by the accessibility of Cardiff Business Club’s speaker event, particularly for a trainee solicitor at the very start of her professional career. The relaxed environment and diverse attendees allowed for connections to be formed without strain. I’m very much looking forward to the next speaker’s event in January 2022.
